Welcome to Practical Philosophy Kingston

We offer a ten week evening course in Practical Philosophy

Who We Are

We are the Kingston Branch of the School of Economic Science, a registered charity based in Central London and with branches throughout the UK.

We currently offer our ten-week "Practical Philosophy" course for a nominal fee of £10 in celebration of our 23rd year in the local area and we have called it "A Gift of Happiness". Our Introductory Courses are run in central Kingston in the Richard Mayo Centre, Eden Street, Kingston-upon-Thames and also in Richmond at the Richmond Friends Meeting House. Continuation courses are run at various venues in the Kingston and Richmond area. No prior knowledge is required for the introductory course.

Introductory courses start three times a year usually in January, April/May and September/October. All are welcome.

Many hundreds of people have participated in our course since we first opened our doors in Kingston in 1994. The vast majority have found it to be of real practical benefit in their lives as well as being illuminating and enjoyable. You can see video clips from students on this site.

Students who have completed the Introductory Course are invited to join our Foundation Group which studies the following Parts 2 - 5 of the continuing course. Those who choose to practice mantra-based meditation move into the New Meditators Group which studies Parts 6 - 12 of the course. Meditation being an integral part of the study from Part 6 onwards. Those who dont wish to practise meditation continue their studies in the Foundation Group for as long as they wish.

People of all ages and backgrounds come to our classes, from teenagers to senior citizens. You are only asked to have an open mind and a willingness to consider the views of others. Further details of the course are available in the ‘About the course’ section of this website.

We hope to see you.
